Research funding (RFOs) and research performing organisations (RPOs) have distinct yet complementary responsibilities when it comes to navigating the unavoidable risks of international cooperation. Developing a culture of ‘responsible internationalisation’ requires sharing good practices, raising awareness, standard-setting and multi-sector collaboration.

A balanced approach requires the support of national governments to ensure that legal frameworks, clear policies and guidance are proportionate in addressing the risks, while promoting international collaboration.

The High Level Policy Network addresses the topics of cross-border collaboration and the European Research Area to advise Science Europe and support its advocacy efforts.

On the occasion of the 2023 High Level Workshop, Science Europe is organising a campaign to showcase its Member Organisations' activities regarding international scientific collaboration with Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, with a focus on academic freedom, integrity, and reciprocity.

The Money follows Researcher initiative is a voluntary effort by a set of European research organisations to enable portability of the research funding that they provide. Its objective is to avoid disruption of projects and to ensure continuity of funding when researchers move across borders within Europe.
