Science Europe Input to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on A European Strategy for AI in Science
Science Europe has submitted its response to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on A European Strategy for AI in Science.
Europe needs a forward-looking strategy that will remain relevant as artificial intelligence constantly evolves, which boosts Europe's innovation capacity and global competitiveness, without shifting the focus away from its values-based models.
Our contribution outlines several key areas for consideration, based on insights from recent events and publications on artificial intelligence, and the collective expertise and experience of our Member Organisations as follows:
1. Integrating AI in grant application and evaluation processes.
2. Exploring AI-supported peer review.
3. Training researchers in the responsible use of AI.
4. Using big data to assess the impact of public R&I investments.
5. Addressing the environmental footprint of AI in research.
Science Europe remains ready to further contribute to defining the European strategy for AI in science, based on the expertise and experience of its Member Organisations who initiate and participate in the entire value chain of research processes, from call design through to publication and valorisation of research.
