Science Europe Response to the European Commission Consultation on the New ERA: Four Years On

Science Europe considers the 2021–2024 period a major step forward for the European Research Area, due to its more inclusive and successful governance.

However, some limitations remain. Science Europe therefore calls on the European Commission and Member States to:

• Maintain the current governance structure while discussing improvements.
• Consider how to improve the ERA's contribution to advancing EU policy in areas of academic freedom, research assessment, mobility, and open science.
• Retain and refine the division between structural policies and ERA Actions.
• Improve information flow between the ERA Forum and existing Actions.
