Research Matters Open Letter: A call to strengthen research and innovation in Europe

Science Europe has joined other research and higher education organisations in a call to increase and strengthen investment for research and innovation at European and national level and protect R&I budgets, as part of the Research Matters campaign. 

The open letter calls for:

1. Increased funding for R&I in Europe to over 3% of GDP within the European Union
and across European countries.
2. Doubling of the budget for the EU‘s next research and innovation programme (FP10)
to 200 billion EUR.
3. Protection of the latter by ring-fencing the budget.

This investment is crucial to tackle the continent‘s most pressing challenges, to remain competitive and advance the economic, societal and ecological transitions, for the improved well-being of all Europeans.
