About the Meeting

The 2026 Regional European meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC) is jointly organised by Research Council of Lithuania (LMT), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), and Science Europe, to prepare for the 2027 GRC Annual Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa.

The topic for the GRC European Regional Meeting is Making a  Case for Curiosity-Driven Research (CDR). Discussions will focus on the following three key areas:

1. Defining CDR and its distinct value in rese:arch ecosystems.
2. The role of public funders in building enabling environments for CDR.
3. Making a compelling case for CDR in impact-focused policy landscapes.

The meeting forms part of a wider Curiosity Week organised by UK Research and Innovation, which also includes a meeting of the OECD Global Science Forum (OECD-GSF) and a joint meeting of the GRC European Regional Meeting and OECD-GSF on Curiosity-Driven Research in a Mission-Driven World. Participants to the GRC European Regional Meeting are welcome to attend a number of these wider Curiosity Week sessions
