This report presents the discussions and outcomes of the main and satellite events held as part of the 2023 High Level Workshop on the ERA. This edition of the event dealt with international scientific collaboration between Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, based on principles of reciprocity and equity.

In 2022, Science Europe made significant contributions in various areas, including research culture, research assessment, open science, EU framework programmes, the green and digital transition, and science communication.

We welcome the adoption by the Council of the European Union (EU) of the conclusions on high-quality, transparent, open, trustworthy, and equitable scholarly publishing. As key public research and innovation actors in Europe, we are committed to supporting the development of a publicly owned, not-for-profit scholarly communication ecosystem in collaboration with policymakers in Europe and beyond.

This report highlights the main ideas and insights that emerged from the 18 and 19 October 2022 Conference on Open Science, organised by Science Europe.

The 2022 High Level Workshop on the ERA dealt with the topic of research ethics and integrity when engaging with various public audiences.

One of the most prominent initiatives in the digital and open transition of research is EOSC. This federation of existing research data infrastructures in Europe aims to create a web of FAIR data and related services for research

For Science Europe, 2021 was a very important year: the association celebrated its 10th year of existence. The Science Europe Strategy Plan comes at a crucial time for European Research an Innovation (R&I) and includes an updated vision, mission, values, and set of strategic priorities for the association. It supports its Member Organisation in their mission to create world-class scientific knowledge, delivering more benefit for our societies.

This Multi-annual Action Plan proposes a series of framework actions to guide the implementation of the Science Europe Strategy Plan 2021–2026 in line with the association's updated vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities.

On 27 January 2021, Science Europe presented the second, extended version of its Practical Guide to the International Alignment of Research Data Management during a webinar with more than 260 participants.
As it was unfortunately not possible to address all questions participants asked during the launch event, this document presents the answers to the questions asked to both Science Europe and the webinar speakers.

This Practical Guide provides guidance to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of research data. Three complementary maturity matrices provide funders, performers, and data infrastructures with a way to create a common understanding of the approaches needed.

The year 2020 saw a global pandemic attest to the value of science. In the race for COVID-19 treatments and vaccines, Science Europe’s Member Organisations were at the forefront of the global response and our association became more relevant and important than ever.

Released in partnership with CESAER and the European University Association (EUA) this joint statement outlines how all publishers must fully respect researchers’ rights by providing clarity and transparency on Open Access.

The European Commission approach to the ‘ERA Pact for Research and Innovation in Europe’ should be as inclusive as possible. Its development and implementation need to include research communities, national governments, research organisations, and R&I stakeholders.

This briefing paper aims to support decision makers at research organisations and research funders to develop new monitoring exercises or assess and improve existing processes to measure the Open Access status of publications.
